Journey To River Sea – Eva Ibbotson

Rating: 10/10. 61QBxsGmPdL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_

Recommended for: I would recommend this for both genders. The main characters is a girl, but the others mains are boys.

This is an exciting novel for ages of 9 and above. The storyline flows in a believable way and is set in an unusual setting. How many books have you read in the amazon river? If you have ever read a book set there, you’ll know how the forests and animals and even the people can make an exciting story.

The story is set in the 1910’s, but there are only small details that show that it is set over 100 years ago.

The story is about an orphan named Maia. Two years after her parents death in Egypt she receives knowledge of a long lost family in the amazon. And they have 2 twin girls her age. On the boat trip to brazil she gets to know her strict but lovable governor and meets another orphan actor who is basically forced to act with some group who can’t pay their dues. Maia promises the boy (Clovis) that she will watch his play. Maia is excited to meet her twins, but is disappointed when she finds 2 fat, stupid, cruel, selfish girls instead. She meets the servants, that are indians and meets a boy that the cops are looking for. She sets out on an adventure of lies, double- crossing, fun and disappointment.

Liar and Spy – Rebecca Stead

Rating: 8/10 Unknown-1

This Book is a book of action, but as you may find if you have read any of Rebecca Stead’s other books then you will know that all of the action happens at the end. Georges (The s is silent) has to move house into an apartment. He finds a note in the basement that says ‘spy club meeting, today’. He responds and makes some friends (Safer and Candy) from the upstairs apartment and they investigate Mr X the man on the top floor. Safer and Candy don’t go to school. As all this is happening Georges’s mum is working in the hospital doing night shifts and working over time but there is more surprises as the book comes to an end. They find out who Mr X really is. Gorges also finds out who safer really is. This book is a surprising book, you never know what is going to happen. I would Recommend this book to most year 5’s and 6’s.

Song For A Scarlet Runner – Julie Hunt

9781743313589

Rating: 9/10

Recommended for: age 9+

I think this is a great book. It is a fiction adventure book for ages 9 above. It is an exciting book about a girl on the run from her home. Peat is her name and she has been accused of bringing bad luck to her village and was banished. As she ventures through the marshes she comes upon a old lady who brings her in as her apprentice. She teaches her how to heal and tell stories.

But the storytelling brings her a bit too far. She finds herself trapped in another world where time stands still. As she follows along the river she comes upon a 900 year old boy and a ghost hound as her only friends.

On this exciting adventure it keeps you on the edge of your seat and just waiting to see what Peat gets herself into next.

The Sun Trail (Warriors: Dawn of the Clans) – Erin Hunter

Rating: 8.5/10Unknown-1

Level: Hard

Note: This is the first book in the series. This is also a prequel series, but I would read this first to get an understanding of how the cat Clans came to be (you’ll find that out later!)

Recommended for: Those with good reading stamina and interest in cats, drama, action, adventure, and romance.

“The Sun Trail”  By Erin Hunter

This is one of my human friend’s most favourite books, though you do need to be a bit of a bookworm to read it, as it is over 900 pages long. If you like adventure, with a good dose of action, and finally a bit of love and loss, then this is one for you!

The novel is narrated by Roberts, an escapee from Pentridge Prison, who was imprisoned following a series of armed robberies and follows his journey of escape. What unfurls is an incredible story of adventure that sees the protagonist, Lin, flee to India with a fake passport and start life over in the slums of Bombay. On arriving in Bombay Lin makes friends with a local named Prabaker, where together they become immersed in the chaos and allure of Indian life.

As the story progresses Lin finds himself on both sides of the law, sometimes acting for the greater good and other times contributing to the never-ending cycle of corruption and violence. He sets up medical clinics in the slums, becomes involved with the Indian Mafia, falls in love, acts in Bollywood movies, fights in Afghanistan for the Mujahedeen and becomes acquainted with gangsters, soldiers, people of the streets, holy men and of course, Karla and his mentor Khader Khan.

The novel is written as an autobiography but blurs the line between fact and fiction on many occasions, with some parts of the storyline developed from a mixture of different events and characters. Although most of the characters are invented they have been inspired by people that Roberts met during his time on the run.

My human gives this book a 10/10
