My name is Aspen, I am a 7 year old Beagle who lives in Brunswick, a very hipster suburb of Melbourne, Australia. I live my human friend, who was born in a not-so hipster village in England; she rescued me from the Lost Dogs Home a few years ago when she first moved to Australia. Since then we’ve been partners in crime (well apart from when she goes on holidays & leaves me at the dog hotel). We go to the park together, walk the streets, go to the beach (my human likes to surf!) and sometimes, if I’m really lucky, she feeds me bacon! Bacon days are the best!
I have a best dog-friend, Leroy; a brown Kelpie who lives about a 10 minute run from my house. We usually see each other every day at the park. He is C-R-A-Z-Y energetic, loves to run and is always herding the other dogs. He is my other partner in crime.
Apart from eating, running, eating, sleeping, eating, playing ball and eating, one of my favourite things to do is to curl up at night with a good book and read. The only problem is that I don’t always know what to read, and neither do the other dogs in the park, so I figured I should just start a book review blog. I mean, how hard can it be?!

Welcome to the ‘Beagle with a Book’ blog…
You’ve either ended up here because you were ‘googling’ for a meme involving dogs and reading, or you’re a friend of Aspen’s human! If you were looking for that meme, sorry, you’re in the wrong place! This is actually a blog, primarily set up for kids to review and recommend their reading books, with the occasional adult book review thrown in too.
Aspen’s human friend is a teacher at a primary school in Yarraville, Victoria, Australia. During Term 1 of this school year, Aspen’s human discovered that her class were avid readers which meant that they were often asking her for book recommendations more frequently than she could actually read new books. The solution? … To set up a student-led, book review blog where her students could write the reviews and recommend books themselves.
Where does Aspen fit in and why isn’t it just called ‘6B’s Reading Blog’?! Well, firstly, who doesn’t love beagles (you’ll have noticed that Aspen is particularly cute!) and secondly, how boring would ‘6B’s Reading Blog’ be? Point made.
Posts will largely be made by her Grade 6 students, other interested students at the school of all ages, perhaps some other staff members and of course Aspen and his best friend Leroy.
The bloggers will review their books on a 10 point basis and the work will be entirely their own. Whilst the posts will be proofread, they will not be changed in terms of content by teaching staff, it is after all meant to be blog for kids, by kids.
Enjoy and happy reading!
